Why cant you just be happy?

Day 6

I have a friend, also a makeup artist, who, 30 percent of the time is the funniest thing on two legs. Quick witted and sharp as a tack.  The rest of the time she is the most negative person you could  ever hope to meet.

Now I have been working at this studio on and off for the past week, generally with the same crew.  We are all of the same mind set, in fact we had a deep conversation about the LOA (Law of Attraction) and the powers of the universe.  Now for those of you who have been living on planet ZOG for the past 1000 years or have not heard of the book called The Secret. The basic premiss is, if you truly  believe something bad is going  to happen, it will. If you truly believe something good is going to happen, it will.  The Masaru Emoto experiment proved this.  Basically boiled rice is put into two sealed jars. On one jar is marked LOVE, the other HATE.  He tells one jar everyday how much he loves it, and the other jar how much he hates it. After several weeks the love jar is as fresh as the first day. The hate jar has turned into black sludge!

This friend, no matter how the conversation starts, she will have a harrowing outcome that has happened to her, or someone she knows or someone she heard about.  She once refused to go to a social function because she heard there was to be a guest from the African continent and she didnt want to get Ebola!

Bearing in mind, she was the only change in crew compared to the previous 4 days. She walked in with her dark mood and proceeded to tell us that she felt 'in her bones' that the day would not go well.

It was amazing to stand back and watch as this toxic gas of negativity hit the team! Like a stack of dominos, each one in turn started to lament previous disasters. Where as previous days were filled with laughter and all the positive things that have been happening in all our lives.

I have had a conversation  with this woman previously about her attitude. But some people  refuse to be enlightened.   She refuses to believe all her bad luck has anything to do with her negative attitude. She isn't even willing to try to remain positive. According to her, you can't  be happy all time.  My response, Why the hell not? Some people wear their negative attitude like some kind of emotional comforter.  It's a matter of choice.  It always has been, it always will be...The Secret anyone?

Rum Rum Yum Yum

Day 5

So today a good friend of mine has just returned from her Caribbean cruise and brought back for me....drum roll.....TORTUGA RUM CAKE!!

Now if you have never tasted it before, it's worth stowing away in sub-zero temperatures of a boeing 747 luggage hold, just to get to any island in the Caribbean to try this thing.  I first tasted it when I went to Tobago and I have always tried to buy a few boxes whenever I have been in any of the Islands.  I have tried to make it myself using various recipe books, but it never tastes the same. (Trust me I HAVE tried!) According to Tortuga "Each rum cake is hand glazed with special 5-year-old, oak barrel aged Tortuga Gold Rum then vacuum sealed to lock in the delicious freshness."

The minute you open that vacuum bag the smell of rum hits your nostrils like a drunk at closing time. The cake is so soft and moist it almost dissolves on your tongue.  It was a fitting end to my life of indulgence as we will soon attempt our get fit routine so we are well and truly prepared for our 5k Pretty Muddy experience!

Nothing Beats Receiving Goodies in the Post!

Day 4.

So, this is my 8th day in a row working.  Had to drive on the A13 to get to the studio where I was shooting today.  I'm sorry to the drivers going in the opposite direction who seemed to be angrily sitting in traffic all the way through my 30 minute journey.  It was smooth sailing for me (Pre-ordered it from the Universe didn't I).

Today I was shooting an award winning singer and song writer, who is big in Nigeria.  He's currently a judge on Nigerian Idol.  We listened to his latest single several times today, I think I will have to be lobotomised before I can stop singing the chorus!

Back at home I had my Race for Life package.  As well as a list of ways to persuade people to part with their money, there are instructions of things to do before the big day, exercises, temporary tattoos and what to wear etc.

I've received my running number

As well as my Group leader badge

I must admit, it has made me feel rather good giving something back.  I mean if everyone who read this blog, for example just text  BUKV93 £1 to 70070

It would be a small donation from that individual, but collectively it could make a difference to someone in our lives, if not ourselves.  And it stores us some of that positive Karma, we could all do with.

Is Pleading Really Necessary???

Day 3.

Have been working since last Thursday and although I did nothing for 8 days prior to that, I am absolutely shattered.  Not sure if it's the work or the Christian Grey dreams that interrupted my well needed sleep.  Either way, it took Whitney belting out I'm every woman to finally get me bopping out of bed this morning.  Love a bit of Whitney!  Needs must though and once again we are on the sponsorship train.

Have managed to get two more "Dollys" on board (thanks Soraya Issacs and Simone Beyleveld).  They don't make it easy to add new members and I was close to throwing tablet out the window in utter frustration.....until I remembered it was mine and rang them up instead. All sorted now, well, except the slot they booked is half an hour after ours, due to it's popularity (who knew!).  I think Soraya will probably saunter around the course followed by Jeeves constantly quenching her thirst with chilled champers and a moist toilette, where as Simone will be going for gold and be at the finish line before us all (fit doesn't even cover it).

Have set up Just Giving App which has thankfully given me a text number for donations (Text 70070 BUKV93  £5 incase you're interested).

Have to get ready for photoshoot tomorrow.  Big pop star apparently.

Fifty Shades of Whiffy Pants

Day 2.

Manny has decided to set up her own Just Giving page.  With any luck she should have all of Bollywood donating.  It's taken most of the day so I bloody hope so (every rupee helps!)

I have emailed all 75 people in my contact list with a link to my Just Giving page....they have collectively decided to act as if I've offered them a share of £20,000,000 if only they'd give me their postal address as well as their first born!

I've performed makeup on 5 people today.  I think that's the equivalent of a 3 mile speed walk. Exercise sorted.

The team had a group meeting resulting in a mock picture supplied by Ciara.  She has superimposed our faces onto the bodies of various super models.  Let's hope they don't look too closely at our faces as both Manny and I look like we're giving birth to a cactus!

We finished the evening drinking Mojitos and watching Fifty Shades of Grey.  Was the film graphic? Not really.  There is a scene where Anna is about to lose her virginity.  Christian goes on bended knee, about to indulge in a bit of conalingus, get's a whiff of her knickers, which, incidentally, she's been sweating in all day at work and most of the night, without a shower!   Quite rightly, he changes his mind and decides to give her a good rogering instead.

Dialoge is not as awful as the book.  Will be seeing the sequel.

Madness or Commendable? You Choose

So its been a while since I last ventured into the world of blogdum, (is there such a word?)  forgive me father it 's been 3 years since my last confession!

How people blog on a daily basis and hold down a full time job is beyond me. It just used to take up soooo much time. I'd give myself an hour to update, only to find myself still at the computer 4 hours later editing and extending and extending....

So why am I back now ? Well, I have had friends as well as my own father die of cancer.  I have also had friends and family members who have been dragged through the bowels of hell and come out the other side, so anything we can do to help should be encouraged. Right?

My fellow colleagues and I (that's you Manny Semra and Ciara McCarthy), 3 of the most unfit, battle scarred (makeup cases cause havoc with the limbs you know) makeup artists you could ever meet.  Have decided to do the  5k Pretty Muddy Race for life on behalf of cancer research.  5 kilometres of inflatabletorturous, obstacles covered in mud.   So if you happen to be in Reading on 30th May come along or you could just subscribe to this blog and follow our antics.....videos will also be provided for those of you with masochistic tendencies, who enjoy seeing fat arses covered in mud and looking like a marathon runner with bowel issues!

Day1.

We have paid our registration fee (it costs to take part). We've chosen a name 'DirtyDollys' if you must know.  Flirty Flappers and Virgina Monkeys having being rejected by the group due to the offence it may cause when shouted by our accompanying cheer squad.

We have selected our JustGiving page, which at the moment comes with a preset template, which we will edit at a later date with images to entice people to part with their hard earned cash or ill gotten gains, we're not fussy! But for now the template has been posted on Facebook. We received our first donation within 2mins whoop! Whoop!

I have instructed the squad...yes I'm that serious,... that we have to start doing some form of excercise. 'Makeup artist dies in face full of mud ' is not an option, so I took the first step (parden the pun) and downloaded the S step pedometer.  Apparently 10,000 steps a day is a really healthy goal to aim for. Today I have done...oh 3599 ....still early days!
