Fundraising Update

Day 37

So 5 semi unfit makeup artists will be doing the 5K Pretty Muddy Race for Life event on 30th May in Reading (feel free to pop by).

We've just seen pics of the assaults we will have to climb over and under!

Always, on the positive side, at least they all seem to be smiling....let's hope, so will we.  Albeit with mud between our teeth!

At present, we have managed to raise £596.10 with 62 more days to go.

Thank you all for your support so far.

Fear is Not Your Friend!

Day 30

I've stepped up my training.  I was intending to just follow the low impact video from YouTube but frankly, it started to bore the pants off me.  So I've gone back to jogging.  I had stopped last year, because I got an ache in my knee.   As a makeup artist,  I'm on my feet most of the day, so dodgy knees are not an option.

But I have missed it.  So this week, taking it easy.  I did a slow 5k run.  The sun was bursting through the clouds, the streets were empty, the birds were singing and I didn't stop once.... I felt absolutely fantastic!  So much so, that I did it again the day after, and the day after that.

They say you can't beat a good bit of exercise to make you feel like you can take on the world.  So why did I stop doing it for so long?  FEAR!  The fact is, the twinge in my knee could simply have been the fact that I hadn't warmed up or cooled down properly or I wasn't concentrating on how I was running and putting added pressure on my knees.   It could be many reasons, but I let the worse case scenario overtake my wanting to do something I actually enjoyed.

Every week I read the Rush Hour Crush in the Metro.  People who see someone on their journey to work but who are too afraid to say hello in person, so they put an article in the paper.  WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?  The worse that can happen is they say no thanks, and you're then free to move on.

People stay in a job they absolutely hate, day in and day out, slowly eating away at their soul. WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?  That you'll never find another job, or one that you love?  How do you know if you are too afraid to try.

People who stay in relationships they hate WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?   That you will be on your own?  So what!  If you can't stand your own company, what good are you to anyone else.  Why don't you assume the great love of your life is just a street away instead.

People fear death WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?  The great unknown?  I have a theory;  we are all energy, we close our eyes, we sleep, we replenish that energy.  We close our eyes, we die.  Energy disperses and forms something else and that's it.  It's also inevitable, so why not try living your life instead of fearing it.

It's Spring Bitch

Day 24

My favourite time of the year has always been spring.  I love the  pink and white blossoms as the trees no longer look like rooted twigs. There is nothing more beautiful as England in the sunshine and where I live is particularly scenic, with its ducks, swans and geese frolicking in the nearby pond.

Being my day off , I decided to brush off any mundane house chores.  It would be far more beneficial to my soul to sit by the pond, listening to nature and reading a good book.

I have always tried to eat right, I exercise  when I can (30 mins cardio plus 10,231 steps before the clock struck 12...race for life Pretty Muddy training still on track) I don't smoke, am a light weight drinker and the only highs I've ever indulged in is the kind that's found in a chocolate wrapper! I as a result have good skin, and a healthy BMI for a woman my age (even if I say so myself)

So off to the park I thought. Armed with my Kindle, no make up and the largest sunglasses I could find.  On the way, I decided to pop in to the local supermarket. I wanted to thoroughly enjoy my little ME time, so I bought a sandwich and a couple of  cans of premixed drinks. In this case spiced rum and coke.

Trying to stay incognito, I decided to use the self service till,  when the machine started to flash.  I needed authorisation to buy what consists of 5 percent alchohol content! The shop assistant enquired whether I had any ID....now it's  been a while since I've been asked for one of those at Tescos so  no I replied. She then asked me to remove my glasses....oh no I thought....that should teach me to come out without eyebrows,....."ooh" she said, after I removed the sunglasses...."you looked about 16 with the glasses on...rough night?"

Now I'd like to report to you dear readers,  that I left her lying there, after dealing with her Jeremy Clark style, but alas no....instead, I took my purchase and went on to sit graceful looking at the swans, who didn`t mind what I looked like.   Om.

Which Tip: Happy International Women's Day

Which Tip: Happy International Women's Day: Day 20 So everyone who knows   me or who I have worked with, will tell you I am a very positive person.  I try to surround myself ...

Happy International Women's Day

Day 20

So everyone who knows me or who I have worked with, will tell you I am a very positive person.  I try to surround myself with like minded people.  You know the type.  They bring the sunshine in with them. You want to be around them all the time, because they make you feel good long after their presence has gone. You always make time for them, because you know you're in for a good time, no matter how dire the surroundings.

The one's I try to avoid,  are the ones who no matter how lovely the day,  they always make saying good morning sound like they've swallowed a cold cup of cat sick.  The amount of times 'I've left my phone in the other room'  just to have an excuse to get away from them bitching about their 1st world problems.  ( If you are a positive, upbeat person and have heard me say this phrase in the past, I have genuinely left my phone in the next room,  obviously).

But today I saw two pensioners walking hand in hand. One looked in her eighties, complete with all white hair.   The other,  maybe a decade younger.   At first, I thought because one had a limp, holding hands was a means of helping her a long,  then I thought maybe the one with a limp had learning difficulties.  As they sat at the bus stop.  The white haired lady placed a long lingering kiss on the other.  It was then, that I realised they were in fact lovers and lesbian lovers at that!  My point is, during this people watching session, being lovers was not part of the scenario I imagined......sometimes the picture you see is not the whole story.

That grumpy cow we try to avoid or the attention seeker we ignore or that colleague who feels the need to slag off another,  have some underlying reason why they act that way and we should try and find out what that reason is before we dismiss them.  After all,  us women should be a force to be reckoned with and helping each other to shine, makes us all glow, and how can you show them the light if you don't know what's causing the darkness!

Can you push too hard????

Day 17

How do you get everyone fit enough to do a challenge for charity?

I have set a goal of 3 days a week exercise, which should be enough, baring in mind we have just over two months.  My motivation, for getting them motivated, is purely because we are supposed to complete the course  all together and frankly I don't want to spend my time walking 3 miles (5k) soaked in water and mud simply because people haven't realised there would be so many obstacles to tackle, the clue is in the title... it is supposed to be a challenge.  Trust me if I could get people to donate money, whilst I dance Salsa all evening drinking rum and cokes, I would!   Hell, forget the Salsa.   Laying in bed all weekend drinking rum and coke, works for me too. But that's not an option.

We will be jumping, climbing and crawling through mud while "volunteers" bombard us with water It's a Knock Out style.  I may not want to break any records, (I couldn't even if I wanted to do,  those days have long gone), but I do want to get it over and done with as soon as possible and as it takes 30-40 mins to complete the course.   It would take an hour to stroll the course in the possible cold.....brrrrr!

So, hence the 'training' to keep us all on the same fitness level.  So far I'm doing okay, I have completed two days workout already.  Another did 2/3 of the exercises on day one and she's been  in bed ill ever since.  One has refused to do any exercise because "I don't like people telling me what to do".  I have heard nothing from the remaining two.

I'm hoping it is all a matter of slow burners, otherwise I am either going to be in the hospital post the challenge due to people collapsing or I'm going to be swung from the nearest tree because they didn't know it was going to be that hard!

Biting the Bullet!

Day 14

So, today exercise starts in earnest.  I did a 30 minute meditation to get my mind right first, then I got down to my bra and pants and started my first 30 minute exercise routine.

With the sun streaming through the window and me at 5 foot and a spit.  I felt like an Amazon warrior woman ready to take on the world and kick some arse and show some love (meditation kicking in!)

What is it about exercise that makes you feel so good?

Of course it helps that I have a day off today, so I am already on a partial high, but where as normally, I would have a list of mundane chores to complete.  Of which, I would put off and snuggle up to a box set of one of my favourite shows, complete with jumbo popcorn and a rum and coke or two! I am about to meet up with girlfriends for lunch today.  I will then, eventually,  slip back to my home and get those mundane chores done.  Confident in the knowledge that I will not only complete them all, but feel that all is right with the world once I have done so.

Scientists will say it's all the positive endorphins that exercise produces.  I say it just takes away the guilt you feel for being a lazy bitch all day!
